Navigating the Dialectic Dilemma: Office Telemarketers in India

Post by shukla10 »

Hey all,

Anyone else out there drowning in a sea of unsolicited sales calls? Seems like every other phone call these days is an office telemarketer pushing some product or service. And for some reason, a large chunk of them seem to have Indian accents.

Now, before we get into a whole cultural thing, let's focus on the issue: unwanted telemarketing calls disrupting our workday. Here in India, the Telemarketing Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) has regulations similar to the US's Do Not Call Registry. But honestly, it feels like those rules are just suggestions for some telemarketing companies.

So, what can we do as victims (I mean, recipients) of these relentless calls? Here are some ideas:

Be the Blocker:

National Do Not Call Registry (NDNCR): Just like the US, India Cambodia Phone Number has an NDNCR. Register your phone number there. It's not a foolproof solution, but it can help reduce some calls.
Phone Settings: Most smartphones these days have built-in options to block specific numbers or numbers with certain prefixes. Utilize this feature!
Be the Boss:

Don't Be Shy: When that telemarketing call comes in, don't just let it ring. Pick up the phone and politely but firmly tell them you're not interested and to remove you from their call list.
The Script Master: Craft a short, polite script you can use to shut down telemarketers quickly. Something like, "Thank you for calling, but I'm not interested. Please remove me from your list."
The Authority Figure: Sometimes, a little white lie can work wonders. Tell them you're on the National Do Not Call Registry and report the violation if they persist.
